We want to make our families aware of a situation at Adams Elementary School earlier today.  School staff observed a couple of students displaying some odd behavior which lead them to further investigate.  Their investigation resulted in the discovery of a pellet gun in the backpack of one of the students. Pellet guns are a type of air gun that can be made to look like a high caliber firearm.  It was confiscated and school administration immediately called in the District’s School Resource Officer (SRO) to assist with further investigation.  As the SRO and administrators were in the process of conducting their investigation another student came forward and produced his backpack which contained a second pellet gun.  That student claims it belonged to the student who was found with the first pellet gun and it had been placed in his backpack without his knowledge.  Based on the District’s initial investigation there was no threat of violence or any intent on the students’ parts to use them at school.  It appears the student who brought them to school intended to exchange or share them with a friend.

The school immediately contacted the families of the students involved.  Discipline of the students is being administered in compliance with the District’s discipline procedures while Adams Elementary and the District further investigate this situation.

Thanks to the keen observation skills of those Adams school staff who saw something out of the ordinary and helped bring swift resolution to this situation.  The District also wants to encourage families to remind your students if they see or hear about anything they think threatens the safety of the school learning environment to say something. 

 

Queremos informar a nuestras familias sobre una situación que sucedio en la escuela Primaria Adams el día de hoy. El personal de la escuela observó que un par de estudiantes mostraban un comportamiento extraño que los llevo a investigar más a fondo. Su investigación resulto en el descubrimiento de una pistola de perdigones en la mochila de uno de los estudiantes. Las pistolas de perdigones son un típo de pistola de aíre que se puede hacer para que parezca un arma de fuego de alto calibre. Fue confiscado y la administración de la escuela llamo inmediatamente al Oficial de Recursos Escolares del Distrito para ayudar con una investigación mayor. Mientras el Oficial y los administradores estaban en el proceso de realizar su investigación, ótro estudiante se presento y sacó su mochila que contenia una segunda pistola de perdigones. Ese estudiante afirma que pertenecia al estudiante que fue encontrado con la primera pistola y que la había colocádo en su mochila sin su conocimiento. Basado en la investigación inicial de Distrito, no hubo amenaza de violencia ni intención alguna por parte de los estudiantes de usarlas en la escuela. Parece que el estudiante que los trájo a la escuela tenia la intención de intercambiarlos o compartirlos con un amigo.

La escuela contacto de inmediáto a las familias de los estudiantes involucrados. La disciplina de los estudiantes se esta administrando conforme a los procedimientos disciplinarios del Distrito, mientras que la Primaria Adams y el Distrito investigan más a fondo esta situación.

Gracias a las agudas habilidades de observación del personal de la escuela Adams que vieron algo fuera de lo común y ayudáron a resolver rapidamente esta situación. El Distrito tambien quiere alentar a las familias a recordarles a sus estudiantes que digan algo si ven o escuchan algo que creen que amenaza la seguridad del entorno de aprendisaje escolar.
